Foundation for your wedding: test the shade before it counts

On no other day is your face photographed so often. That’s why it pays not to decide on your foundation shade in the week before.

Start in good time

Test two to three months ahead. That leaves time to order a neighbouring shade if the first one doesn’t fit, and to wear the foundation for a whole day.

Think of your skin on the day

If you marry in summer, you may be more tanned than when you test in spring. Then check the shade again shortly before, or have two shades and mix them.

Three lights, one test

  1. Daylight at a window: does the colour match your neck and chest?
  2. A photo with flash: does your face look lighter than your neck? Then something is reflecting; more in the article on flash photos.
  3. Warm evening light: if your face looks more orange than your neck, the shade is a touch too warm.

Lasting the whole day

  • Wear it for a full trial day, with eating, hugs and tears.
  • Pack powder or blotting papers for later.
  • If a make-up artist does your make-up: bring your shade or write it down.

Try it with your foundation

Type in the foundation and shade you wear. The shade finder shows you the closest shade at other brands, with an honest number. Free, no sign-up.
