Why your bathroom light lies, and where to test foundation
The same foundation can look perfect in the bathroom, too light in the shop and orange in a phone photo. Your skin hasn’t changed; the light has.
Warm light makes everything more yellow
Many lamps at home are warm white, so yellowish. Under them every skin looks warmer, and a foundation that’s too warm hardly stands out, until you step outside.
Cool light makes everything duller
Cool white LEDs in shops and offices pull colour towards blue. Warm shades often look too orange there, cool ones too grey.
Your phone camera guesses too
Cameras balance the light automatically, and beauty or retouching filters smooth out skin colour on top. So a photo isn’t good proof for a shade, unless you switch the effects off and photograph both swatches in the same light.
How to test properly
- At a window, in daylight, no direct sun.
- Swatches on your jaw, not the back of your hand.
- Let them dry for a few minutes.
- Always compare several shades in the same light, never one after the other in different rooms.
That’s why the Copine app checks the light before every scan. If it’s too dark, your phone screen becomes the lamp, so it measures in a light it knows.
